Wisconsin, and Devon
Cardamone of the
Aspen Valley Ski Club
were the first to
capture Junior Olympic
gold in the 2008 USSA
Rocky/Central J4 Junior
Olympics Super G. Racers
reached speeds in excess
of 50mph down the course
that tested each racers

strongly and cleanly to
take the win.
March 24, 2008
I am on the way home from the Junior Olympics and
have a lot of great news to report.
First I would like to acknowledge Joe Kutschenreuter,
who finished 3rd in the Slalom at the Eastern High
School Championship race.
At the J3 Junior Olympics in Vail, HH was
represented by three racers, Piper Rosenheimer,
Tyler Theis and Will Blommer.
As first year J3's Tyler and Will skied great
competing in all four events racing against the 90
best male skiers in the Central/ Rocky Division. In
the Downhill Tyler finished 25 and Willy 31. In
Super G Tyler 39, Willy 22. Piper 56. In the GS
Tyler unfortunately didn't finish, but Will was 28th
and Piper 56th. In the Slalom, Piper had a little
trouble and was unable to finish, while Tyler was
28th and Willy 21st.
Overall it was a great week with very good
competition. Our HH skiers went out hard and
learned a great deal about ski racing in the
mountains. All are ready to get back at it and get
ready for next season.
Following the J3 J.O.'s the J4 Junior Olympics took
place in Winter Park. HH again had three racers
(and a number of fans) on the hill. John Jaekels,
Eliza Rolfs and Chloe Daley skied fast all week.
And many thanks to the HHers that while on a ski
vacation took time to cheer on our racers.
in the Super G Eliza Rolfs kicked off the week with
a win! John Jaekels 11th and Chloe Daley 54th. For
the GS there were two Separate races. In GS1 Eliza
was 2nd, John 40th and Chloe 63. In GS2 Eliza 3rd,
John 16th and Chloe 59th. On Slalom Day Eliza had
some misfortune and was unable to finish, but John
skied well and after a hike in the first race
finished in 7th in SL2. Chloe had an outstanding
day. Starting the race with bib 67 she finished in
36th and 28th place in the first and second SL.
These finishes earned her the Slalom Bib-up award.
Once again this was a great week for our kids, not
only did they learn a lot, but also showed the kids
(and parents) from the mountains that racers from SE
Wisconsin are able to compete in the mountains.
Thanks everyone for a great season.
I'll ski ya later!

Heiliger Huegel Skiers attend High School Nationals.
HH team members
Joe Kutschenreuter, Chris Banholzer and Kelly McMahon
attended the Championship at Mt. Cranmore, NH March
13-16. The skiers traveled with the All Wisconsin team
arriving on Thursday night, with a practice day Friday
and two runs of Slalom scheduled for Saturday and two
runs of GS on Sunday. Winter weather conditions
prevailed with 3-5 inches of snow Saturday and warm
overcast skies for Sunday. Friday was sunny and
beautiful, of course, for practice.
Joe
Kutschenreuter had two incredible runs down the 49 gate
course ending up third overall and winning one of the
prized hand made dolls that have been awarded for over
30 years that they have held the championship. Kelly
McMahon was 28th and Chris had trouble on the
first run ending up 72nd out of 116 racers.
The GS on
Sunday was brutal, with soft snow conditions and having
the girls and boys run the same course. That’s over 230
skiers running down the same run. The course took its
toll, with some incredible blow outs and quit a few
injuries. The boys second run was cancelled due to the
late hour and the conditions of the course. Joe
Kutschenreuter ended the first run in 24th
place and Chris Banholzer 33rd. Kelly McMahon
lost a ski and was DQ’d. The team overall did really
well in trying conditions. We are still waiting to hear
the team scores but it was thought the Wisconsin boys
team was 4th overall.
Keely Noonan
qualified for the second year in a row, but was away on
a school trip and could not attend.
